“caring is spelled P-R-A-Y-I-N-G” lloyd ogilvie

July 1st, 2009

this week as i study the word of God i continue to be brought back to prayer.

matter of fact on monday in a group i meet with at starbucks we were studying james 5 and verse 13 hit me like a sledge hammer.

5:13 is one of you in trouble? he should pray.

tuesday i was studying

romans 8:26 in the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. we do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.

john 16:24 until now you have not asked for anything in my name. ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.

lloyd ogilvie - says, the most profound expression of friendship is prayer. there are no more encouraging words we can say or hear, “I’am praying for you!”

today - i’m studying

james 5:16 the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

God I trust you more than I trust myself, please work in the lives of those in the world, the city, 1027church, my neighborhood, and my family. i believe you can answer this prayer!

i have been processing the past few sundays at 1027church and thinking about what happened as we have gathered to worship. i do not want to be brash or careless but over the last few weeks it seems many that are coming have experienced the presence of GOD! as a church planter/pastor i would like to say or believe that God is present every sunday during worship at 1027chruch, heck i would like to believe we have the presence of God everyday in my life and your life.

i pray that GOD continues to visit us Monday through Saturday and Sunday is the bomb.diggity.com.

this will probably be my only post this week . . . i know i’m not the throw down everyday blogger. my goal is to blog twice, maybe three times a week. anyways i’m on vacation with my wife and kids in california visiting our family in laguna beach.

to say we are having a good time is an amazing understatement. to be able to down shift, rest and relax is all so good. the time in prayer and some bible study is fresh too. i’m so thankful to have the privledge to have a vacation like this and to have such generous family.

at the end of the day one of God’s greatest plans is the family. i know sometimes there all kinds of dynamics about family. but i thank God for all my family and i think God continues to teach me alot about the family of God through family and the need to love family.

thank you karen for allowing us to crash into your life and home and your generosity!

this past weekend 1027church took it to the streets - the virginia highland summer fest streets. so many churches, rightly so, are reengaging with their neighborhoods and communities while others are caught up in being their own little communities. there have been and there still are churches that impact their neighborhoods or communities but sometimes people do not even know churches are in the neighborhood.

with that said, one way churches are reengaging their communities is by taking a sunday to take their ministry to the communities and have community work days. i think it is a great idea! but God has been so good to 1027church that we do not need to invent a community outreach weekend; it’s literally on the street in the neighborhood and the street that inman middle school is on which we meet, once a year through a festival. i’m so proud of the people from 1027church who signed up and volunteered for the summerfest. 1027church you are awesome. may God use his bride 1027church to make lots of disciples.

so this past sunday, 1027church was on the street volunteering and serving our viriginia highland community.

iron man

June 8th, 2009

okay, over the last few weeks (maybe even a month) i have been processing something. okay, maybe somethings. i have not pulled them (thoughts) all together or, honestly, i’m not sure i have complete understanding from the Father yet. but here are few things i’m processing.

* call to ministry - iron man call

* disciples - making disciples, discipleship, missional disciples

* simplicity

maybe over the next week few weeks i will share what i’m learning.

oh, by the way, shout to my friend kris mcdaniel at the trinity vinyard - atl. thanks for the friendship and the word from the lord - 50 years in the vinyard.

memorial day week-ned @ 1027church.com. today was a great day to reflect on those who gave their lives for the freedom we love in america and remember the ultimate freedom that came through Jesus on an old rugged cross by celebrating communion. thank you JESUS;
1. for dying on the cross for the sins of the world, and the city.
2. for jonathan who makes sure our worship is always focused on you - God.
3. for people who came out on the holiday week-end.
4. for danny preston sitting in with the worship gang today.
5. people who are praying for 1027church to reach the city.
6. the re-tool of the community groups for the fall of 09.
7. hamburger and hotdog cook-out and fellowship.
8. we pray melanie has her baby.

baby dedication next sunday and the opportunity to serve our neighborhood at the virginia-highland summer fest.

multi-faith

May 21st, 2009

Below is an article written by Bob Roberts, I think God is using Bob Roberts to change the world.

What do you think about the article?

Author - Bob Roberts

Bob Roberts writes:, “Been thinking a lot about inter-faith – the word describing how we relate to other faiths. I think there are three words that have described its evolution, and a fourth I would propose. There were Muslims and Jews with us – and we spoke on interfaith.
First, in reflecting since the meeting, historically people have focused on “My Faith.” All the world is see through my personal faith, values, and worldview. My agenda is to get every person to see life through my lens. Even though people try that – it hasn’t happened in the history of humanity.
Second, “One Faith.” This was the idea of universalists and liberals – we are all on the same path. All roads lead to God. This is still advanced by an older, declining group in interfaith circles. The goal is minimize our differences, come around where we can agree, and hopefully build a kind of “human faith” that all religions subscribe to.
Third, “Inter-faith.” Historically, as I’ve heard Eboo Patel talk about and others with his organization, it meant liberalism and syncretism. Not anymore. It’s beyond tolerance, and even respect, to collaboration. How do we work together in this world?
Fourth, a new term I propose “Multi-Faith.” It holds to the new concepts I’ve been learning from people like Eboo who is a Muslim, and young evangelicals of not compromising faith – yet working with all faiths to build a stronger society. In this context, we believe with passion what our faith(s) teach and don’t compromise for the sake of syncretism but appeal to the best in each of our faith traditions in what they teach about respect, love, humanity, and working together. “

community groups

May 19th, 2009

over the years pam and i have been a part of some great community groups. we have some great people @ 1027church. And over the last few years we have enjoyed gathering together and sharing our lives with others. this past year we where in a group pictured above that meet on thursdays. we had a few college students that where not in town when this picture was taken.

like i said pam and i have been in some good community groups. the thursday night group was a good one. but what makes a good community group? here are some thoughts!
1. the only thing that makes a community group gell is Jesus and he has to be the center of the group.
2. good bible study, a place where you can talk about what the Bible says and what it does not say.
3. the groups prays and cares for each other.
4. the group cares for others and helps meet needs faster than the church can. let me give an example of this . . . the thursday night group in brief was made aware of a family who lost their apartment, clothes, food, etc. and with-in minutes good provided resources and relationship to be the hands and feet of Jesus. no big appeal just being a smaller part of the body of Christ.
5. the group wants to serve together.
6. the group enjoys fellowship together.
7. the group sees God almighty answer prayer. and just seems to love to pray for each other and others.

man everyone truly needs fellowship in the body of Christ. pam and i r thankful for the thursday night group and all the amazing groups who have helped us follow Jesus.
