that’s how we roll!

May 11th, 2010

This past Sunday on Mother’s day 1027church submitted ourselves to becoming more of what God’s word calls us to be, the family of God. God has been and will continue to challenage us at 1027church to not be arm chair Christ Followers but to be Holy Spirit, Word of God driven Activists!

So on the day of the mother by the way that should probably be everyday! And thank Jesus for Mothers! 1027church committed to take up our game of serving widows and putting some skin in the game in the area of adoption. Not totally sure what that means for us at 1027church. But here are some thoughts!
1. Praying for orphans, people adopting, supporting any family and families that have adopted.
2. Dreaming of a day that 1027church might be able to provide resources for those who are called of God to adopt!
3. Be lead by the Holy Spirit to have a deeper understanding of the deep rich value of God created life and doing something about our words! Getting off the couch!

A super resource out there to help with conversation of Adoption is the Bible (I know you know that) another resource is a super book by Dr. Russell Moore Adopted for Life.

Oh and by the way some of our very own our brutha and sista Jonathan and Callie Rich are in the adoption process. And just like all the other amazing baboes that God has brought to the beautiful families at 1027church we cannot wait for this next one to come.

To quote the theologian Kramer from Seinfeld – “I’m out there Jerry and I’m loving every minute of it!” God we are committed, we hear your cry about orphans, and we will obey! 1027church is out there!

Oh shout to Marah for the amazing ice coffee Sunday! God is so good!

See ya Sunday if not sooner and remember somebody we know needs to know Jesus! Please pray, please listen to their story, and please share what God is doing in your life!

What A Mess!

May 6th, 2010

What a mess!

I just drove down 10th street heading to a meeting with a Church Planter. Then I remembered my brothers and sisters in Christ from Westboro Baptist Church were in my city to protest at Grady High School. Westboro Baptist Church – Thanks for nothing, What a mess you made!

My name is Tim Wolfe and I have been following Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior for 26 years. I believe in the inspired, inerrant Word of God. I’ve been a Church Planter now for some 14 years. God, my family, and I planted the 1027church in April 2004.

My family and I have been on mission in Midtown for almost 8 years now! Let me state a few obvious things:

1. The people who live in my city are NOT Fags – some would call themselves Gay!

2. God Loves Gay people! End of discussion!!

3. Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

4. God loves sinners!

5. What you just did in my neighborhood where two of my kids go to school did not help anything. In fact, it made matters worse!

I have read the Bible and I know what the Bible says about being gay, hating people, gluttony, pornography, lust, and several other SINS! And by the way this BLOG is not written by some flaming liberal or illiterate Christian. I do not think you held up any signs today saying that God hates people who overeat or people who have lust in their hearts or people who do not love their neighbors? So please do not come back to my city until you ask God to forgive you and our city to forgive you for the fact that, although you have received GRACE, all you displayed today is JUDGMENT. Last time I checked you are not GOD! If you want to be like Jesus live out John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, he Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only,[a] who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. If you would like to talk with me more about my thoughts please call: my cell is 404.226.7382, my e-mail is tim@1027church.com.

Oh and by the way, bumper stickers, t-shirts, signs, are never going to help somebody out of the kingdom of darkness as much as praying, loving, caring, and sharing the gospel of Christ. Which does match up to the old song . . .

Amazing grace that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see.

Earth Day and Jonathan Merritt

April 22nd, 2010

Today is Earth day, I have to confess that did not mean very much to me until my family moved to Midtown Atlanta in 2002. Now my wife was for sure already a head of the curb and probably much more green sooner.

But I will say the journey for my wife and I to care more about the creation of God has not been because it’s cool but because I believe God moved on our hearts. Over the years I think God has spoke into to our hearts on what it means to be a WHOLE follower of Jesus.

I would say over the past 3 years somebody who has befriended me and my family and 1027church Jonathan Merritt has taught us, modeled, and encouraged us about the responsibility of the follower of Jesus Christ to be take serious our stewardship responsibly for planet earth which is God’s creation. God even says in Genesis the all he creates is “GOOD!”

So my friend Jonathan who is amazing (pardon my man crush) has written a book – Green Like God – Unlocking the Divine Plan for Our Planet. And it is a super book. Jonathan sent me an early copy to read and see what I thought, well before I could read it my mother-in-law who lives with us read it . . . loved it! Than my wife picked it up next before I could read it and she read it and loved it. Well I’m reading it and I love it.

So why is the book so good? Well it’s good because Jonathan is a good writer, he also shared in the book how God taught him to care about God’s creation and how the power of the Word of God, and the spirit of God spoke to him through God’s creation. Jonathan’s book has a very healthy, balanced and the super natural power of God in Jonathan’s life story. Not just a Christ follower trying to be cool or following some kinda of trend.

The book is also good because it has some super content besides Jonathan’s personal story! Chapter 9 for me is one of the BEST Chapters because in my opinion Jonathan did not write to book to be cool, to make Christians cool, but Jonathan is a prophet of God challenging you and I what are we gonna do about stepping up and taking care of GOD’s good creation. How are we doing in the area of stewardship with planet earth? The title of Chapter 9 say’s it all “The Enemy In Us All”

Page 116 is a very convicting statement of the book for me, for us all!

“Most of us live oblivious to any environmental crises so Americans rest easy. Unfortunately, our solace is like drinking rum in a snowstorm. We feel warm, but the warmth isn’t real. Ecological problems are bubbling up both at home and abroad. America has it’s share of environmental problems, and though many of them are localized to poorer neighborhoods and forgotten places, others intensely our children and us. Worse still, other people around the globe pay for the unsustainable life styles that Americans consider normal as we shift the burden to other nations’ citizens and export our way of life. As we realize the American dream. Much of the rest of the world is waking up to environmental nightmares.” – Jonathan Merritt – Green Like God

Wow that passage messes up my selfish life and heart. Jonathan thanks for writing such a GOOD BOOK! Thanks for showing me and our world what God says, for prophetically challenging my selfish desires, for encouraging me and others and loving us into to Godly stewardship of God’s creation. I’m telling everyone “Right Now” you better get out today or on-line and get u a copy of GREEN LIKE GOD and follow my friend @ JonathanMerritt.com and all he is doing.

Thanks God for Jonathan!

multi-faith

May 21st, 2009

Below is an article written by Bob Roberts, I think God is using Bob Roberts to change the world.

What do you think about the article?

Author – Bob Roberts

Bob Roberts writes:, “Been thinking a lot about inter-faith – the word describing how we relate to other faiths. I think there are three words that have described its evolution, and a fourth I would propose. There were Muslims and Jews with us – and we spoke on interfaith.
First, in reflecting since the meeting, historically people have focused on “My Faith.” All the world is see through my personal faith, values, and worldview. My agenda is to get every person to see life through my lens. Even though people try that – it hasn’t happened in the history of humanity.
Second, “One Faith.” This was the idea of universalists and liberals – we are all on the same path. All roads lead to God. This is still advanced by an older, declining group in interfaith circles. The goal is minimize our differences, come around where we can agree, and hopefully build a kind of “human faith” that all religions subscribe to.
Third, “Inter-faith.” Historically, as I’ve heard Eboo Patel talk about and others with his organization, it meant liberalism and syncretism. Not anymore. It’s beyond tolerance, and even respect, to collaboration. How do we work together in this world?
Fourth, a new term I propose “Multi-Faith.” It holds to the new concepts I’ve been learning from people like Eboo who is a Muslim, and young evangelicals of not compromising faith – yet working with all faiths to build a stronger society. In this context, we believe with passion what our faith(s) teach and don’t compromise for the sake of syncretism but appeal to the best in each of our faith traditions in what they teach about respect, love, humanity, and working together. “

this commercial did not make it super bowl week-end!

February 14th, 2009

i just got to view this pro-life video that did not make the cut during the super bowl week-end. nbc decided to cut it and not allow it even though the catholic activists where purchasing commercial time just like everyone else.

it seems strange nbc would not allow this commercial to be in the mix of the super bowl commercials. in my opinion it’s because nbc does not want to deal with the picture of the baby that everyone can see is a baby in the womb.

there are more debates and conversations to be had in our day than just aboutabortion, and gay marriage. we do need to not only talk about and act on creation care, mercy, justice issues, locally, globally, and of course poverty. but we need to stand for all these issues. and pro-life is very important to me.
