can I change part 3

May 13th, 2010

It’s hard to believe but it is almost the middle of May! I have a lot of great things happening in my life since I first blogged “Can I Change!” the first one can be found or read here! As 2010 started in January there where some disciplines and areas of my life that needed to change.
1. my weight
2. amount of time I spend watching tv
3. time in prayer and bible study (more time invested and more discipline)
4. finally doing something about a messed up right hip that has bothered me for 7 years and causes me to limp (which I do not even notice.)
5. improving as a father for my two teen-agers (now one of which is a young lady) and a 11 year old!
6. learning to love my wife with more acts of service
7. working and living in financial freedom vs. debt!

So i did a little check up a while back which was Can I Change Part 2 you can read it here!

So how am I doing NOW, weight wise I have lost a little ground, in other words gone back a step or two actually added back 5 pounds (the scale is not driving my fitness) so I’m working on refocusing on some of the disciplines I was doing a little better at eating wise and getting more time in the gym! So number 1 I took a step or two backwards still on the track I would give my self a – C! As far as the TV I’m improving and and refocusing on reading some books instead of to much time in front of tv, I would give myself a – B! Time in prayer and Bible Study, man I just do not know I can be content with where I am verses where I could be? – No idea grade wise I will continue to ask God! Number 4 – good news I’m headed back to orthopedic surgeon Wednesday/May 2nd! We will see what happens.

Numbers 5, 6, 7 – man I need some more change! I will share some more info about these areas in the weeks a head (just a great way to keep you coming back to this amazing blog with all it’s wisdom, HA!) please pray with me and for me! Please pray for Ariah as she graduates from Grady High School in two weeks and starts Kennesaw State University in the Fall and That God would change me!

Old Things have Left the Building!

January 1st, 2010

2 Corinthians 5:17 TNIV • “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

I have been following Jesus Christ since April 5, 1984. January 27, 2010 I will become another year older, as a matter of fact I will turn 46. In the past I think God has made some BIG changes in my life. And I think God is still changing me and I think God wants to see some more change “new is here!” I have made some new years resolutions in the past of hopes of seeing some change, some change I have kept for a while others things did not change or not last long at all. I have learned I do NOT have the power to make changes in my life or make the change last. I know by saying that some people would probably say that’s lazy or it sounds like you are making excuses.

Renewal is rooted in faith, not in resolutions! I cannot make a new me or a new u, but Christ can make you new and me new. (via @KayWarren1) from twitter.

I think Kay Warren is right and renewal is rooted in faith and the work of the Holy Spirit is the supernatural power that changes us through – DISCIPLINE. Not that our discipline changes anything but we have to become DISCIPLINED about the change. I have been praying for a while about some areas I think God wants to change in my life. And for me I feel like it has come down to just being obedient to God or not, so I’m going to jot some of this down in my blog for some accountability.

Really it’s between God and me, but I also believe some of these are things maybe I have tried to not to pay attention to in the past or have hoped to that they might go away. Maybe laying it all on the table would allow me to become completely obedient to the work of the Holy Spirit in my life in 2010.

So I will be blogging about some of the change that I’m praying for God to do in 2010 in my life, family and ministry, in the following weeks as well as other God stuff and life. And I have faith it will happen and the old things will leave the building!

God please do a NEW work in me!

happy b-day seth

October 29th, 2009

it was eleven years ago today at noon that another special person showed up in my life and our family SETH. pam and i already had two other special children in our lives and family ARIAH and ASA. but somehow we needed Seth! now 11 years later I would not trade him in on anything (well at least most days.) seth is beautiful inside and out, is very caring of people and like most children very smart. to get to be is his dad is a joy of life.

there’s a great new movie coming out entitled blind sided – in the movie sandra bullock’s character makes a great statement after somebody says sandra is changing somebody’s life and sandra’s character says, “no he is changing mine.”

happy birthday seth – you are changing my life, and our family and Jesus is all over you!

change of plans teaches us!

October 12th, 2009

okay,

here’s the deal we are big city kids – pam and i, and we love being outdoors. so when we moved to midtwon atlanta 7 years ago a friend told us about an amazing place in dawsonville where you can go burts pumpkin farm and pick your own pumpkin from itty bitty to big giant ones.

so we started about 7 years ago making trips to burt’s in october for family time. and today being columbus day i already had my schedule blocked out for the annual trip. but this morning it was pouring. like we say in miami raining alligators, hard, heavy sheets of rain. but today was it, one shot, so we loaded up in the car and headed out of the city north on 400. we decided to bring our little portable dvd player and use the time to challenge us to be more like Christ in the world! the traffic was crazy, and we knew what usually takes a little over an hour was going to take 2 hours today.

so we were watching a documentary on TOMS. and it was still raining hard, i mean hard. we passed several accidents, and pam said maybe we should take a pass today. we were also looking forward to eating at zaxby’s, which we try to do anytime we head to the subs!

we passed another accident, and pulled off 400 and found a zaxby’s! today was not about the pumpkin picking as much as it was about our family being together, spending time together, talking and making a memory. as we were eating lunch our kids started to talk about TOMS and suggested we buy TOMS for Christmas or anytime and help out around the world. it was awesome!

we decided not to travel back home to the city on 400, but to take highway 9. as we were traveling south on highway 9, we realized we would pass by Land of Thousand Hills Coffee in roswell, one of our favorite minstries that God is changing the world through. Check out their story @ drink coffee do good. . . amazing, as a matter of fact, buy their coffee, use it at your office, school, home, or church. so we got to stop on the way back at Land of Thousand Hills Coffee shop and talk more about change in us and change around the world!

i think God changed our plans today to teach our family more about Him through, rain, plans and a change of plans, TOMS and Land of Thousand Hills!

rocky balboa – theology

August 27th, 2009

“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that! I’m always gonna love you no matter what. No matter what happens. You’re mine and you’re my blood. You’re the best thing in my life. But until you start believing in yourself, ya ain’t gonna have a life.”

June 11th, 2009

this will probably be my only post this week . . . i know i’m not the throw down everyday blogger. my goal is to blog twice, maybe three times a week. anyways i’m on vacation with my wife and kids in california visiting our family in laguna beach.

to say we are having a good time is an amazing understatement. to be able to down shift, rest and relax is all so good. the time in prayer and some bible study is fresh too. i’m so thankful to have the privledge to have a vacation like this and to have such generous family.

at the end of the day one of God’s greatest plans is the family. i know sometimes there all kinds of dynamics about family. but i thank God for all my family and i think God continues to teach me alot about the family of God through family and the need to love family.

thank you karen for allowing us to crash into your life and home and your generosity!
