run it again

August 17th, 2009

i know not everybody is a big fan of sports, or specifically football, but let ramble a little bit about something most sports teams and for sure they do in football. they practice the same play over, and over and over again. as a matter of fact that is where the saying “run it again” come’s from.

in football they will practice the same play over, and over and over again, and when they are not excuting the play correctly the coach usually yells run it again or even run it again from the line, which simply means start it over from the line of scrimage. i can hear you saying so what?

the so what is that on game day the team is ready to play and has the opportunity to run their plays with perfection because they have run it again, and again and again. watching my son’s pee wee football team tonight run it again, and again and again the same play has to make you wonder what am i running again, and again and again in my life?

i heard a very amazing military leader once say when you have a plan you have to work your plan. i think sometimes maybe things do not work out and all of sudden you look to make a change instead of working your plan or running the play over. i’m not talking about being afraid to make a change or change something if it’s not productive. but maybe there are some things in my life that i need to “run it again.”

I love this. There are SO many ways that football relates to life and there are SO many valuable lessons it teaches its players. After playing football for four years (that were far too short) in high school, I wish everyone, especially males, would play organized tackle football for some period of time in there lives. Call me a football fanatic, but I love it.
